Avsharism

Other Names: Khalidians, Khalidites

  Dogma

Avsharism teaches that there is one true god, Avshar, who created the world from all that was good and pure in the swirling chaos that existed before creation and organized it into the four elements which all things are made from. He created the four elemental heirarchies to rule over the elements and keep the world in order. Avshar is opposed by Orus, who coalesced from the foul, evil remnants of the primordial chaos after Avshar had finished his creation. Since then, Orus has been trying to corrupt Avshar's creation and is responsible for all of the evil and suffering in the world. Avshar allows this because he knows that Orus' efforts will only pave the way to his eventual defeat, after which evil will be banished from the world.

Orus has revealed himself to the world, but disguises his true nature and claims creation as his own doing. He demands the loyalty of Avshar's creations to help wage war agains any being who stands against him. His endless quest for dominance has brought nothing but pain, suffering and disease to the world.

Avshar has seen Orus' deception and sent his prophet, Khalid, to reveal the truth for all the world to hear. To show that Khalid speaks for the true creator, Avshar has lit a new star in the night sky. It resides in the constellation of the Lion and shall henceforth shine as a sign to the believer that Avshar is with him and will protect him. Alas, but Khalid was not present to see it. He disappeared only hours before the star was lit. So far, none can agree as to his fate. Some say he was struck down by the filthy Orusians in a feeble attempt to quash the word of Avshar. Others say that, having passed on Avshar's word, Khalid was himself transformed into the star by Avshar that he could guide the faithful forevermore.

The truly faithful are expected to live moral lives. They are expected to practice the virtues of loyalty, honor, friendship, bravery, and chivalry, which Avshar values above all others. Furthermore, they are expected to pray at the appropriate times. Finally, they are expected to bring enlightenment to the unenlightened and to oppose the evil works of Orus at every turn.

When death comes, the souls of the truly faithful shall be brought to paradise to be rewarded in accordance with their deeds in life. Those who were not truly faithful shall find that Orus will sieze their soul and use it for his own foul ends.

  Ceremonies

Daily Prayer -- Every Avsharite is expected to pray at sunrise and sundown. Prayer is done in a seated position with ones legs crossed in front and ones arms resting on ones legs. The hands should be held loosely, palm up, with the thumb and forefinger crossed to represent Avshar's star.

  Holy Days

January 8 -- The most holy day of the Avsharite year. It marks the day Avshar created a new star in the sky to prove the prophet Khalid spoke truly.

  Symbols

The only symbol of Avshar in use at the moment is a star. Most designs feature a simple four-pointed star with each point of equal length. More elaborate designs feature an eight-pointed star with four large points of equal length and, between each of the large points, four small points of equal length.

  Major Centers of Worship

Kadesh -- Kadesh is the city where Khalid revealed the holy truth for the first time. It is the most holy city of the faith and a major center of worship.
