Dear Olaf and Mater: This week I killed a strange monster that was half man, half lion, half bat, and half scorpion. They called it a manticore, I guess becasue it was male. A female would be a womanticore. I jumped on its back so that it could not fly away, then I saw that it had a tail with 16 stingers on it. This was not a good move, I almost died. The bosses' niece was out again so she didn't see it. Again. It was brave but it was stupid, I could never make the other warriors understand that you didn't have to be stupid to be brave. Eobard could, but he died. Later a griffin stole a horse. I wanted to leave it alone, but Decimus killed it. I wanted to find the nest so that the babies would not die, a sportsman does not leave young, but the father was there. I was sorry I had done it, but I could not stop the others from killing the male but we got the eggs, at least. I almost died. Later we were hunting we ran into four giant wolves that talked. They were very tough and there was only Robin the Ranger and me. I almost died. I am learning how to act like a Tarantine, but most of the time I don't bother. Even if you talk like them, and dress like them, and throw the bones in the right place, they still say "Stupid barbarian. Go away." Sometimes I do things that are rude just to annoy them. The Swooping Hawks and the Glenor made me feel better, like us they don't treat you bad if you're from a different tribe, unless you're at war. The Tarantines have no idea of hospitality. I will look very good when I come home, with a magic sword and riding a flying griffin. How are my sisters? Is Gothwain still learning magic? He should come here, there is lots of magic here. Aelfred PS If you visit me ask for alfredus, that's what they call me here.
