The Empire of Tarantium is the the center of the known world. It is a vast state stretching thousands of miles from border to border, encompassing dozens of cultures and counting members of every civilized race among its citizens. It is an ancient state having existed for more than a millennium and a half. It has suffered war, famine and disease and it has enjoyed peace and plenty. It has survived evil gods and known the blessing light of Orus Invictus. Through it all, Tarantium has endured and prospered. Behold the power and glory that is Imperial Tarantium! SPQT: Aquitania is a Dungeons and Dragons third edition campaign taking place in Aquitania, which is a large and important province of the Tarantine Empire. The PCs are the 'confidential staff' of Senator Lucius Sempronius Alabraxus. He is an influential member of the Imperial Senate, a respected Archmage, a scholar and the paterfamilias of one of the most powerful patrician families in the empire. He has recently retired from active participation in the Senate and is devoting himself to magical research. Of course, magical research is one of those esoteric pursuits that always seems to require that one obtain some dusty tome or odd component and these things always seem to be in the most out of the way places and guarded - or even attached to - the most hideous monsters. Thus, while he can have servants sweep his study and send an apprentice to the market for simple components, there are a great many tasks that require brave and capable individuals. That's where the PCs come in. The PCs have, in one way or another, come to work for the Senator. Together, it is their task to do the dangerous tasks. They are the ones who will explore dank dungeons and fight hideous monsters. They are the ones who attempt to obtain rare components and forgotten books. In exchange, they are paid a salary, keep any incidental treasure they might acquire, and have the significant benefit of having a senator as their patron. Whatever you might be able to say of their lives, you cannot say they are dull.
