Greetings! This is the homepage for both the SPQT: Aquitania campaign and for
Caenum, the 'homebrewed' setting where it takes place. This site is intended primarily as a
resource for the players, but there may be some information of use to others.
The Empire of Tarantium is the the center of the known world. It is a vast state stretching thousands of miles from border to border, encompassing dozens of cultures and counting members of every civilized race among it's citizens. It is an ancient state having existed for more than a millennium and a half. It has suffered war, famine and disease and it has enjoyed peace and plenty. It has survived evil gods and known the blessing light of Orus Invictus. Through it all, Tarantium has endured and prospered. Behold the power and glory that is Imperial Tarantium! SPQT: Aquitania is a Dungeons and Dragons third edition campaign taking place in Aquitania, which is a large and important province of the Tarantine Empire. The PCs are the 'confidential staff' of Senator Lucius Sempronius Alabraxus. He is an influential member of the Imperial Senate, a respected Archmage, a scholar and the paterfamilias of one of the most powerful patrician families in the empire. Despite the fact that he has retired from active participation in the senate, he is still a busy man with no time to do everything himself. Of course, many things can be done by ordinary servants or apprentices, but someone in his position always has jobs to be done that are too sensitive or dangerous to be handled by just anyone. That's where the PCs come in.
If you have no earthly idea what this page is about, the short explanation is that this is a webpage for a roleplaying game set in a fictional world. The page gives information for the players of that game and explains the fictional world for them.
RPGs: RPG is short for 'Role-Playing Game'. The most well-known RPG is Dungeons and Dragons.
A very brief but horribly inadequate description of a RPG is that it's something like
improvisational theater with the script written by a director and the outcome of many events
judged by him with the help of a set of rules like you might find in a boardgame. For a more
detailed explanation, you might find one of the following pages helpful: http://members.home.net/noahrpg/whatisroleplay.htmHistory: If you came here for information about the Roman Empire or some other part of the ancient world, I must apologize. As I explained above, this page deals with a fictional world. Though portions of that world are based on Imperial Rome and other historical cultures and many names have been taken from them, these pages contain only incidental historical content at best. If you are looking for information about history, I would like to recommend http://directory.google.com/Top/Society/History/ as an excellent place to start.
